The method

Read, choose, check — “name the type of question, use its method, check your answer”

  1. Find the type of question: place value, add, subtract, multiply, divide, time or money?
  2. Use that lesson’s method step by step.
  3. Check: add back after subtracting; multiply back after dividing.

Use it for: Revision before a Class 2 maths test or the end of the year.

Worked example: 56 + 27 = 83

  1. Ones: 6 + 7 = 13 — write 3, carry 1 ten.
  2. Tens: 5 + 2 + 1 = 8. So 56 + 27 = 83.

Check: 83 − 27 = 56 ✓
