Good app ideas solve a problem — App development for students

Good app ideas do not start with a logo or a cool name — they start with a problem. Grandpa forgets his tablets: a medicine reminder. Friends argue over who pays: a bill splitter. A button that does nothing solves no problem at all. To choose which problem to solve first, ask possible users with a quick survey and pick the need with the most votes. One job done well beats ten jobs done badly.

Developer's tip

Problem first — “a good app idea fixes a real problem that many users have”

  1. A good idea solves a real problem for real people.
  2. Ask possible users (a survey) and count the votes.
  3. Solve the most common need first; keep the idea focused.

Use it for: Choosing a project idea, school innovation fairs and app competitions.

Worked example: 📊 Survey: which problem bugs you most? Which problem should your app solve first?
no quiet study place: 20 votes
missing the bus: 16 votes
losing water bottles: 12 votes → no quiet study place

  1. Compare the votes: 20, 16 and 12.
  2. The most votes (20) went to “no quiet study place”.

Check: 20 > 16 > 12 ✓
