To start a computer, switch on the main power, press the power button, wait while it starts and log in with a password; then the desktop with its icons appears. To shut down, save your work, close all programs, choose shut down, wait for a dark screen and then switch off the main power. Pulling the plug while it is on can lose work and harm the computer.
