Email basics — Computer worksheet

Email (electronic mail) sends messages over the internet. An email address looks like [email protected]. Emails we receive land in the Inbox; Compose starts a new email; the To box holds the address and the subject says what the mail is about. A file sent along is an attachment. Reply answers the sender, Forward passes a mail on, Sent keeps mails you sent and Spam holds junk mail.

Remember

name@place — “every email address has a name, the @ sign and a place”

  1. Every email address has the @ sign: name@place, like [email protected].
  2. Inbox = mail you receive; Compose = write a new email; Sent = mail you sent; Spam = junk mail.
  3. Subject = what it is about; attachment = a file sent with the mail; Reply and Forward answer or pass it on.

Use it for: Class 4 computer lessons on email, writing a thank-you mail to a relative with a parent and spotting junk mail.

Worked example: 📧 In email, which holds emails you receive? → Inbox

  1. Mail that comes in to you goes in one place.
  2. That place is the Inbox.
