Fake news spreads because it is shocking, scary or funny. Before you believe or share, check the source (who made it?), the date (is it old news shared again?) and whether trusted news sites report the same thing. Likes, forwards and scary headlines prove nothing. Deepfakes are videos, photos or voices made or changed by a computer to look real — clues include lips that don’t match the words, strange blinking or blurry edges. A voice asking for money urgently should always be checked with family first.
