What are good exam preparation and goal setting skills?

Good exam preparation is less about studying for longer and more about studying in the ways that research shows work best — and about knowing what you are aiming for. This free course has three parts. Part 1, goal setting for students: dreams and goals, SMART goals for students (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound — you will learn to spot the missing letter), short-term and long-term goals, breaking a goal into steps, tracking progress as a percentage, habits, routines and rewards, and staying motivated after a setback. Part 2, study tips for students: active recall (testing yourself) instead of re-reading, spaced repetition (reviews on day 1, 3, 7, 14), interleaving (mixed practice), Cornell notes and mind maps, flashcards, the Pomodoro technique, and how to concentrate on studies with a good study place, phone-free time, sleep and breaks. Part 3, exam preparation tips: a revision plan counted back from the exam date, reading the paper first, time per question by marks, answering the questions you know first, checking answers, handling exam stress, the day-before and exam-day checklists and learning from mistakes after the exam. To put it into practice, use the free TalentJR Study Planner at https://talentjr.in/study-planner — it makes a weekly study timetable, an exam revision plan from your exam dates and has a 25/5 focus timer.

Exam Preparation & Goal Setting questions

How to study for exams effectively?

Test yourself instead of re-reading (active recall), spread your revision over several days with growing gaps (spaced repetition), mix topics in practice (interleaving), study in short focused rounds with breaks (Pomodoro) and sleep on time. Start weeks before the exam with a written revision plan — the free TalentJR Study Planner at https://talentjr.in/study-planner makes one from your exam dates.

What are SMART goals for students?

A SMART goal is Specific (says exactly what), Measurable (has a number), Achievable (realistic), Relevant (linked to your aim) and Time-bound (has a deadline). “Get better at maths” is a wish; “Solve 10 algebra sums a day until the unit test on Friday” is a SMART goal. Lesson 2 shows how to spot the one missing letter in a goal.

How to concentrate on studies?

Study in the same quiet, tidy, well-lit spot; keep your phone in another room; choose one clear task and use 25-minute focus rounds with 5-minute breaks; drink water, stretch in breaks and keep a regular bedtime. Lessons 14 and 15 cover the Pomodoro technique and your study place, sleep and breaks.

How do I handle exam stress?

A little nervousness is normal. Breathe slowly, use kind and realistic self-talk, keep a steady routine, eat properly and sleep on time; avoid all-night cramming and comparing marks. If worry feels too big or does not go away, talk to a parent, teacher or counsellor — asking for help is a strong, smart step.

Exam ki taiyari kaise karein? (Hindi)

What age is this exam preparation course for?

Ages 10 to 18 — roughly Class 5 to Class 12. Parts 1 and 2 (goal setting and smart study) suit everyone from Class 5; Part 3 (exams) is most useful from Class 6 onwards, before unit tests, half-yearly and final exams.

Is there a free study planner or revision timetable?

Yes. The free TalentJR Study Planner at https://talentjr.in/study-planner makes a weekly study timetable, an exam revision plan from your exam dates and has a 25/5 focus timer — nothing to install and nothing is sent anywhere.

How do I get a certificate?

Sign in and pass the 20-question test of a lesson (16 or more right) to earn its badge. Pass every lesson of a part — Part 1 is lessons 1–8, Part 2 is 9–16, Part 3 is 17–24 — and you get that part’s certificate, with a code anyone can check.

Is this exam preparation course free?

Yes. All 24 lessons, practice, tests, worksheets, badges and certificates are free, and so is the Study Planner. Live classes with a TalentJR teacher (online or at home) are paid — request a call back for fees.
