The Sun is a star — a huge ball of hot gas that gives us light and heat. Eight planets go round it: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Earth has one Moon, which shines because it reflects sunlight. Earth spins once in about 24 hours (day and night) and goes round the Sun in about 365 days (a year).
