Reading comprehension means understanding what you read: who and what a passage is about, where and when things happen, why they happen, in what order, and what new words mean. Good readers go back to the passage and find the exact line that proves the answer. This free course grows the skill class by class: Class 1 reads two or three short sentences about a picture, a tiny story or an animal; Class 2 reads short stories, poems and notes; Class 3 and Class 4 read longer stories, science facts, dialogues, letters, diary entries, notices, recipes and poems; Class 5 and Class 6 read unseen passages — stories, festivals and places of India, life stories, science and poems — the kind that come in school exams. Every passage is our own and every question can be answered from the passage alone.
40 questions per sheet with an answer key — print, save as PDF or solve online.

Reading comprehension is understanding what you read — knowing who and what a passage is about, where and when things happen, why they happen and what new words mean. In school it is tested with a passage followed by questions. This free course has 24 lessons from Class 1 to Class 6, each with fresh passages and questions every time.
Ages 5–12, Class 1 to Class 6. Each part is one class: Class 1 reads two or three short sentences, Class 2 three to five, Class 3 and Class 4 five to eight, and Class 5 and Class 6 seven to ten sentences per passage. Children can start at their own class or one class below.
An unseen passage is a piece of writing the child has not read before, followed by questions. It tests real reading, not memory. Class 5 and Class 6 lessons here are unseen passages — stories, festivals and places of India, life stories, science and poems — like those in school exams.
Yes. Every lesson has free printable comprehension worksheets — for Class 1 to Class 6, with stories, poems, notes, letters, notices and unseen passages — 12 passages per sheet in one column, with an answer key. Print them, save them as PDF or solve them online.
Teach one habit: answer from the passage. Read the passage, read the question, then go back and put a finger on the line that proves the answer. Ask “why” and “how do you know?” while reading stories together, and talk about new words.
Sign in and pass the 20-question test of a lesson (16 or more right) to earn its badge. Pass all four lessons of a class — for example Class 3 is lessons 9–12 — and you get that class’s certificate, with a code anyone can check.
