What is a fraction?A fraction is a way of expressing a quantity that represents a part of a whole. It is written as two numbers, one above the other, separated by a line. The top number is called the numerator and the bottom number is called the denominator.
How do you add fractions with the same denominator? To add fractions with the same denominator, you keep the denominator the same and simply add the numerators. For example, 1/4 + 2/4 = 3/4.
How do you subtract fractions with the same denominator? To subtract fractions with the same denominator, you keep the denominator the same and subtract the numerators. For example, 3/4 - 1/4 = 2/4, which can be simplified to 1/2.
How do you multiply fractions? To multiply fractions, you multiply the numerators together to get the new numerator and multiply the denominators together to get the new denominator. For example, 2/3 x 3/4 = 6/12, which can be simplified to 1/2.
How do you divide fractions? To divide fractions, you multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction. The reciprocal of a fraction is obtained by switching the numerator and the denominator. For example, to divide 3/4 by 2/3, you multiply 3/4 by 3/2, which equals 9/8 or 1 1/8.
