Web safety — HTML and CSS for kids

Building and using websites safely matters. Use strong passwords — long, with capital and small letters, numbers and symbols — and keep them secret, even from friends. Type passwords only on https pages, never put secrets in your code or its comments, do not click prize links or download from pop-ups, think before you post, and tell a trusted adult when something feels wrong.

Code tip

Secret, secure, ask — “keep passwords secret, check for https, ask a trusted adult”

  1. A strong password has 8 or more characters with capital and small letters, numbers and symbols.
  2. Never share passwords or OTPs; type them only on https pages.
  3. Do not click prize links or post your address; tell a trusted adult if something feels wrong.

Use it for: Making your first accounts, publishing a website and using shared computers at school.

Worked example: 🔐 Is abcd1234 a strong or a weak password? → weak

  1. abcd1234 is letters and numbers in simple order, with no capitals or symbols.
  2. It is easy to guess — weak.

Check: Add capitals, symbols and length: like Rain#Drop_42! ✓
