Delegating by strengths — Leadership skills for students

A leader who does everything alone gets tired and the team learns nothing. Delegating means sharing tasks wisely: the member who draws neatly designs the poster, the one good with numbers keeps the budget, the confident speaker presents. Explain each task, set a check-in time and trust people to do it.

Leader's tip

Right task, right person — “match each task to the strength it needs”

  1. Ask what the task needs: art (draws neatly), numbers, speaking, writing, planning (very organised), computers or welcoming people.
  2. Give it to the member with that strength: keep the budget → good with numbers; welcome the guests → warm and welcoming.
  3. Good delegation: everyone gets a part, tasks are explained, there is a check-in time. Poor: doing it all yourself, only friends get tasks, keeping the fun jobs for you.

Use it for: Group projects, school events, club work, class magazines and sports day teams.

Worked example: 🧩 In your team, Kabir draws neatly, Saanvi is good with numbers and Rohan speaks confidently. Who is best suited to host the assembly item? → Rohan

  1. To host the assembly item, you need someone who speaks confidently.
  2. Rohan speaks confidently, so Rohan is best suited.

Check: Try it: for your next group task, write each member’s strength and give out the tasks to match ✓
