After the decimal point, the first digit is tenths and the second is hundredths: in 34.72 the 7 is 7 tenths and the 2 is 2 hundredths. To add or subtract decimals, line up the points (fill gaps with zeros) and work like whole numbers. × 10 moves the point one place right; ÷ 10 moves it one place left.
