Mixed challenge — Tables & Multiplication Mastery

The final test mixes every strategy from Module 3. Before you start, look at the numbers and choose: double and halve? round and adjust? split? a square pattern?

How it works

Choose a strategy — “look first, then pick the quickest way”

  1. A number ending in 5 and an even number → double and halve.
  2. A number ending in 9 or 8 → round and adjust.
  3. Two numbers the same distance from a round number → middle square.
  4. Otherwise → split into tens and ones.

Use it for: Mental maths rounds, Olympiad practice, and checking long multiplication.

Worked example: 35 × 16 = 560

  1. 35 ends in 5 and 16 is even: double and halve.
  2. Double 35 → 70, halve 16 → 8: 70 × 8.
  3. 70 × 8 = 560.

Check: 35 × 16 = 30 × 16 + 5 × 16 = 480 + 80 = 560 ✓
