Numbers 1 to 10 — Nursery and KG maths

Now the numbers go up to 10. Your child hears a number name like “seven” and finds the number 7, and counts rows of up to 10 pictures. Some numbers look alike (6 and 9, 1 and 7), so we practise telling them apart.

How to teach it

Say it, see it — “hear the number name, then find how it is written”

  1. Listen to the number name: “seven”.
  2. Look at each number and say its name aloud.
  3. Tap the number whose name you heard: 7.

Use it for: Reading numbers in picture books, on clocks, calendars and phones.

Worked example: Which number is “seven”? → 7

  1. Say the numbers aloud as you point: 1, 4, 7.
  2. “seven” is written 7.

Check: Seven is written 7 ✓
