What maths does a child learn in Nursery, LKG and UKG?

Before Class 1, children build “number sense”: they learn that a number tells how many, that numbers come in an order, and that groups can be compared. In Nursery (about age 3–4) children count up to 5 by touching each picture, match a number to a group, recognise the numbers 1 to 10, and learn big and small, more and less, same and different, and the circle, square and triangle. In LKG (about 4–5) they count to 10, say the number that comes before or after, fill missing numbers up to 20, compare groups, learn tall and short, heavy and light, colours with shapes, and simple patterns. In UKG (about 5–6) they count to 50 in tens and ones, read number names one to twenty, add and take away with pictures within 10, use the >, < and = signs, learn first, second and third, and the parts of the day. Little children cannot read the questions yet, so every question has pictures and the page reads it aloud. Sit with your child for 10 minutes a day, count with a finger on each picture, and praise every try.

Nursery & KG Maths Worksheets questions

What is in these nursery maths worksheets?

Counting with pictures, matching numbers to groups, numbers 1 to 50, big and small, full and empty, more and less, same and different, shapes and colours, patterns, number names, adding and taking away with pictures, the >, < and = signs, ordinal numbers and the time of day — 24 lessons in three parts: Nursery, LKG and UKG. Nursery ke bachche ko maths kaise sikhayen? (Hindi)

Which lessons are for Nursery, LKG and UKG?

Part 1 (lessons 1–8) is for Nursery, about ages 3–4: counting to 5, numbers 1 to 10, sizes, more and less, and shapes. Part 2 (lessons 9–16) is for LKG, about ages 4–5: counting to 10, numbers to 20, comparing, colours and patterns. Part 3 (lessons 17–24) is for UKG, about ages 5–6: numbers to 50, number names, adding and taking away with pictures, >, < and =, ordinal numbers and time. Schools differ a little, so start where your child is comfortable.

My child can’t read yet — how do we use this?

That is expected at this age. A grown-up reads the question aloud — or taps 🔊 and the page reads it — and the child counts the pictures with a finger and taps the answer. Most answers are pictures or single numbers. On printed worksheets, read each question, let your child point and count, and write the answer for them if they cannot write yet.

How long should a nursery child practise maths each day?

Ten minutes is plenty — about 5 to 10 questions. Stop while your child is still enjoying it. Counting real things at home (spoons, steps, toys) is just as useful as worksheets.

Are the nursery and KG maths worksheets printable?

Yes. Every lesson has free printable maths worksheets for Nursery, LKG and UKG with 40 picture questions and an answer key. Print them, save them as PDF, or solve them online. A new set is made each time, so you never run out.

Sign in and pass the 20-question test of a lesson (16 or more right) to earn its badge. Pass every lesson in a part — Nursery is lessons 1–8, LKG is 9–16, UKG is 17–24 — and you get that part’s certificate, with a code anyone can check.
