You need: salt, warm water poured by an adult, a spoon, a shallow dish and a piece of string. What happens: after a few days, small shiny cubes of salt grow in the dish and on the string. Why: the water holds the dissolved salt until it is saturated. As the water evaporates there is no room for all the salt, so it comes out as crystals. Salt crystals are tiny cubes. This is how salt is made in salt pans by the sea.
