You need: a strip of paper, safety scissors, a paper clip, a ruler and a pencil. What happens: dropped from your raised hand, the helicopter spins round and floats down slowly. Why: gravity pulls it down, but the air pushes up on the slanted blades (air resistance) and turns them. The paper clip keeps the bottom heavy so it falls upright. More clips make it fall faster; folding the blades the other way makes it spin the other way.

Air pushes back — “air resistance on the blades slows the fall and spins it”
Use it for: Science lessons on gravity and air resistance; a quick STEM project for kids with paper.
Check: A crumpled paper ball lands before a flat sheet of the same paper ✓
