In paint, the primary colours are red, yellow and blue; mixing two of them makes a secondary colour (red + yellow = orange, yellow + blue = green, red + blue = purple). Screens mix light of red, green and blue instead. On the colour wheel, complementary colours are opposite (blue and orange) and give strong contrast; analogous colours are neighbours and look calm; a monochrome scheme uses tints and shades of one colour; triadic colours are evenly spaced, 120° apart. Reds, oranges and yellows feel warm; blues, greens and purples feel cool.
