Serif fonts have tiny feet (serifs) on the letter ends and look classic, as in many printed books. Sans-serif fonts (“sans” means without) have plain ends and look clean, and are easy to read on screens and signs. Use one or two fonts, make text big enough, and avoid whole paragraphs in capitals or fancy curly fonts. Type is measured in points (pt): 72 pt = 1 inch. Headings are often 2 to 3 times the body size, and line spacing of about 1.5 × the font size is comfortable to read.
