Artist's tip

Find the topic — “decide which drawing idea the question is about, then use that rule”

  1. Elements: line, shape, form, colour, texture, space, value.
  2. Shading: highlight faces the light, cast shadow falls away from it; near = bigger, far = smaller.
  3. Materials: watercolour see-through, poster colour opaque, B soft and dark, H hard and light.

Use it for: Revising Part 2 before an art exam, a drawing competition or a sketching class.

Worked example: 💡 On a shaded ball, what is the brightest spot called? → highlight

  1. The spot facing the light gets the most light.
  2. That brightest spot is called the highlight.

Check: The highlight is on the side facing the lamp ✓
