Tips to get better at CVC Word Builder
Say the word slowly and stretch it: “c-a-t”.
Practise one short vowel (a, e, i, o, u) at a time before “All vowels”.
Watch out for the extra letters — they are there to make you listen carefully.
Words made of a consonant, a vowel and a consonant — like c-a-t, h-e-n, p-i-g, d-o-g and s-u-n. They are the first words children learn to sound out and read.
How does this game help my child read?
The child hears the word, then has to find the first sound, the middle vowel and the last sound. That is exactly the blending and segmenting skill used in early reading.
Which vowel should we start with?
Start with short a (cat, hat, map), then e, i, o and u. When each one feels easy, choose “All vowels”.
