9 times finger trick — Maths trick for kids

The trick

Fold a finger — “fingers on the left are the tens, fingers on the right are the ones”

1. Hold up all 10 fingers and number them 1 to 10 from the left.
2. For 9 × n, fold down finger number n.
3. Fingers to the left of it are the tens; fingers to the right are the ones.

Use it for: Any 9 × sum from 9 × 1 to 9 × 10 — a great trick to show friends, and a quick check when you forget a 9 table fact.

Worked example: 9 × 7 = 63
