Age and coin riddles look tricky but break into small steps. Ages: everyone gets older by the same number of years. Coins: pretend every coin is the smaller coin, then see how much extra money there is.
✓ You passed this trick’s test.
The trick
Pretend and adjust — “pretend every coin is ₹1, then each ₹2 coin adds ₹1 extra”
Ages: find each age now, then add (later) or take away (earlier) the same years for everyone.
Coins: pretend all coins are ₹1; the extra money tells you how many ₹2 coins there are.
Check your answer by putting it back into the riddle.
Use it for: Maths riddles, reasoning and Olympiad tests, and real-life money counting.
Worked example: You have 10 coins. Each coin is ₹1 or ₹2, and together they make ₹14. How many ₹2 coins do you have? → 4
If all 10 coins were ₹1, they would make ₹10.
You have ₹14 − ₹10 = ₹4 extra.
Each ₹2 coin adds ₹1 extra, so there are 4 coins of ₹2.
Check: 4 × ₹2 + 6 × ₹1 = ₹8 + ₹6 = ₹14 ✓
