× 5, × 25 and × 50 the quick way — Tables & Multiplication Mastery

Multiplying by 10 or 100 is easy. 5 is half of 10, 50 is half of 100 and 25 is a quarter of 100 — so multiply by 10 or 100 and then halve.

How it works

Use 10 and 100 — “5 is half of 10, 50 is half of 100, 25 is a quarter of 100”

  1. × 5: multiply by 10, then halve.
  2. × 50: multiply by 100, then halve.
  3. × 25: multiply by 100, then halve twice (that is ÷ 4).

Use it for: Money (25 paise, ₹50 notes), quarters, and quick checks of bigger sums.

Worked example: 36 × 25 = 900

  1. × 25 = × 100 ÷ 4.
  2. 36 × 100 = 3600.
  3. Half of 3600 is 1800; half again is 900.

Check: 36 × 25 = 9 × 4 × 25 = 9 × 100 = 900 ✓
