Tables 19 and 20 — Tables & Multiplication Mastery

20 × n is just double, then a 0: 20 × 7 = 140. And 19 is one less than 20 — so 19 × n = 20 × n − n, or 10 × n + 9 × n.

How it works

Ten and a bit — “19 × n = 10 × n + 9 × n”

  1. 20 × n: double n and write a 0 after it.
  2. 19 × n = 10 × n + 9 × n.
  3. Or round and adjust: 19 × n = 20 × n − n.

Use it for: Scores, money in ₹20 notes, and the round-and-adjust trick in Module 3.

Worked example: 19 × 7 = 133

  1. Split 19 into 10 and 9: 10 × 7 + 9 × 7.
  2. 10 × 7 = 70 and 9 × 7 = 63.
  3. Add: 70 + 63 = 133.

Check: 19 × 7 = 20 × 7 − 7 = 140 − 7 = 133 ✓
