Tables 3 and 4 — Tables & Multiplication Mastery

The 3 table is a counting rhythm: 3, 6, 9, 12… The 4 table is even easier once you know doubling — double the number, then double again.

How it works

Double-double — “4 × n is n doubled, then doubled again”

  1. × 3: count in 3s, or double the number and add one more of it.
  2. × 4: double, then double again.
  3. Use facts you know: 3 × 10 = 30, so 3 × 9 is 3 less = 27.

Use it for: Sharing things in threes and fours, counting legs of chairs and tables, and the 6, 8 and 12 tables later.

Worked example: 4 × 7 = 28

  1. Double 7: 14.
  2. Double again: 28.

Check: 4 × 7 = 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 = 28 ✓
