Table of 7 — Tables & Multiplication Mastery

Children often find the 7 table the hardest, because it has no simple pattern. The trick: 7 is 5 + 2, and you already know both of those tables.

How it works

Five and two — “7 × n = 5 × n + 2 × n”

  1. 7 × n = 5 × n + 2 × n.
  2. Near 10? Use 7 × 10 = 70 and take away: 7 × 9 = 70 − 7 = 63.
  3. Remember the tricky ones: 7 × 7 = 49, 7 × 8 = 56 (5, 6, 7, 8!).

Use it for: Days in weeks (7 days each), and any time a 7 turns up in a bigger sum.

Worked example: 7 × 8 = 56

  1. 7 × 10 = 70.
  2. Take away 2 7s: 70 − 14 = 56.

Check: 5 × 8 + 2 × 8 = 40 + 16 = 56 ✓
