How to teach it

Think of the real thing — “picture the real things: which reaches higher, which is harder to lift?”

  1. Tall or short: which one reaches higher from the ground?
  2. Heavy or light: which one would be harder to lift?
  3. Think of the real things, not the size of the pictures.

Use it for: Using the words taller, shorter, heavier and lighter, and getting ready for measuring.

Worked example: Which is heavier: 🐘 or 🪶? → elephant

  1. Think of the real elephant and the real feather. Picture them side by side.
  2. The elephant is heavier than the feather.

Check: An elephant is heavier than a feather ✓
