Same and different — Nursery and KG maths

Seeing what is the same and what is different is the start of sorting and of patterns. Your child finds the one picture that is different in a row, says whether two pictures are the same, and finds a matching picture.

How to teach it

Look carefully — “look at every picture — the one that does not match is different”

  1. Look at every picture in the row, one by one.
  2. Most of them match — they are the same.
  3. The one that does not match is different.

Use it for: Sorting toys, matching socks and shoes, and spotting patterns.

Worked example: Which one is different? 🐟🐟🚗🐟 → car

  1. Look at each picture. All of them are fish except one.
  2. The car 🚗 is different.

Check: Three fish and one car — the car is different ✓
