Subtracting from 100, 1000 and 10000 — Vedic maths trick

The trick

Nikhilam Navatashcaramam Dashatah — “all from 9 and the last from 10”

1. Write the number with as many digits as the base has zeros (add zeros in front if needed).
2. Take every digit from 9…
3. …except the last digit, which you take from 10.

Use it for: Any number taken away from 10, 100, 1000, 10000 — also useful for making change with money.

Worked example: 1000 − 357 = 643
