A clear poster has one big headline that the eye sees first, strong contrast, a clear focal point, plenty of white space and only a few colours. An infographic shows facts as pictures: simple bar charts, icons with short labels and numbered steps. Less clear layouts have five headlines all the same size, text over a busy photo, long blocks of tiny text or colours chosen at random. Keep text inside the margins: a 42 cm poster with 3 cm margins leaves 42 − 2 × 3 = 36 cm for content.
