A digital image is a grid of tiny coloured squares called pixels. Its resolution is how many pixels wide and tall it is, and the total is width × height: 300 × 200 = 60000 pixels; one million pixels make 1 megapixel. The aspect ratio is the shape, width : height. 16:9 is wide (screens, landscape video), 4:3 is squarer (older screens), 1:1 is square (profile pictures and square posts) and 9:16 is tall (phone videos). When you resize, keep the ratio, or people look squashed.
