Maths cage puzzle — a logic puzzle with sums

A maths logic puzzle: fill the grid so each row and column has every number once, and the numbers in each cage make its target. One answer per grid.

How to play Maths Cage Puzzle

  1. Choose 3×3 easy (+ and ×), 4×4 medium or 5×5 hard (+ − × ÷).
  2. Every row and every column has each number from 1 to the grid size exactly once.
  3. A cage is a group inside thick lines. Its numbers must make the target with its sign — 7+ means they add up to 7, 2÷ means one is double the other. One-square cages are given.
  4. Press ✓ Check. Solve every grid of a round for the Cage Cracker badge.

Maths Cage Puzzle — questions

What is a maths cage puzzle?

A number grid where every row and column has each number once (like sudoku) and the squares are grouped into cages. Each cage shows a target and a sign: its numbers must make that target.

Is it free?

Yes — free in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, no download.

Does every grid have only one answer?

Yes. Before a grid is shown, a computer solver tries every possible filling and the cages are drawn again until exactly one filling works.

How should my child start?

Begin with the 3×3 grids. Look for cages with only one way to make the target — two squares making 3+ must be 1 and 2. Then use the rows and columns.
