Learning from mistakes and a positive attitude — Leadership skills for students
Everyone makes mistakes; leaders learn from them. After 4 out of 10 in a quiz, find what went wrong and practise that part — do not hide the paper or blame the questions. A positive attitude does not pretend problems away; it sees them and looks for the next step: “The rain cancelled the match — let’s practise indoors.”
What can we learn? — “every mistake points to what to practise next”
Learning from it: asking what went wrong, trying a new method, noting the lesson, saying sorry and fixing, practising the weak part.
Giving up: quitting the club, tearing up the work, never trying again, blaming bad luck, hiding the result.
Positive attitude = seeing ways forward. Negative = “This team is hopeless.” After a loss, a captain says “Proud of our effort,” then plans what to improve.
Use it for: Low marks, lost matches, failed experiments, stage slips and arguments with friends.
Worked example: 🌤️ Positive or negative attitude? “The rain cancelled the match — let’s practise indoors.” → a positive attitude
The speaker accepts the problem and finds something useful to do.
So it shows a positive attitude.
Check: Try it: take one recent mistake and write three lines: what happened, why, and what you will do next time ✓
Work it out in your head or on paper, type the answer and press Check. Stuck? Press “Show me how”.
