Divisible by 4 or 8? — Maths trick for kids

The trick

Odd or even — “even tens digit: ones must be 0, 4 or 8; odd tens digit: ones must be 2 or 6”

1. For 4: even tens digit → the ones digit must be 0, 4 or 8. Odd tens digit → the ones digit must be 2 or 6.
2. For 8: even hundreds digit → the last two digits must be in the 8 table.
3. Odd hundreds digit → the last two digits plus 4 must be in the 8 table (5136: 36 + 4 = 40 ✓).

Use it for: Checking long-division answers, leap years (divisible by 4), and Olympiad divisibility questions.

Worked example: Is 3716 divisible by 4? Yes
