How to do it in your head
Pick the easy road — “split, round and take away, or break into factors”
Split: if one number has small ones (like 23), do × 20 and × 3 and add.
Round and take away: if a number ends in 8 or 9 (like 39), do × 40 and take away × 1.
Factor: if a number is in a times table (like 24 = 8 × 3), multiply by one factor, then the other.
Use it for: Prices of 2-digit quantities, area of rooms, and Olympiad speed rounds.
Work it out in your head or on paper, type the answer and press Check. Stuck? Press “Show me how”.
