Tables 15 and 16 — Tables & Multiplication Mastery

15 × n is 10 × n plus half of that again, because 5 is half of 10. 16 × n is 10 × n + 6 × n, or the 8 table doubled.

How it works

Ten and a bit — “15 × n = 10 × n + 5 × n”

  1. 15 × n = 10 × n + 5 × n — the second part is half the first.
  2. 16 × n = 10 × n + 6 × n.
  3. Add the two parts.

Use it for: 15 minutes (a quarter hour), and the Module 3 doubling tricks.

Worked example: 15 × 8 = 120

  1. Split 15 into 10 and 5: 10 × 8 + 5 × 8.
  2. 10 × 8 = 80 and 5 × 8 = 40.
  3. Add: 80 + 40 = 120.

Check: 15 × 8 = 30 × 4 = 120 ✓
