When friends start a business together, they share the profit in the ratio of what each put in. If they put money in for different lengths of time, use money × months.
Money × months — “each partner’s share of the profit is in the ratio of money × time”
Same time: ratio of the money put in.
Different times: ratio of money × months (someone who joins after k months is in for 12 − k months).
Simplify the ratio, find one part = profit ÷ total parts, then multiply.
Use it for: Sharing profits fairly, small businesses, and partnership questions in aptitude tests.
Worked example: Kabir starts a business with ₹30000. After 4 months, Meera joins with ₹45000. At the end of the year the profit is ₹27000. What is Kabir’s share (in ₹)? → 13500
