Speaking tips

Key words — “wake up, breakfast, lunch, homework, dinner, o’clock, half past”

  1. Use “at” with clock times: “at six o’clock”, “at half past seven”.
  2. For things you do every day, use the simple form: “I wake up at six.”
  3. For one other person, add -s or -es: “Riya brushes her teeth.” “Kabir goes to school.”
  4. Use “on” with days: “on Monday”. Agree with a friend: “So do I!” or “Me too!”

Use it for: Telling your day to a teacher or friend, writing a diary, and planning a timetable.

Worked example: ⏰ Which sentence matches the picture? I wake up at six o'clock.

  1. Look at the picture: ⏰ — an alarm clock rings in the morning.
  2. Find the sentence that tells what the picture shows.

Check: Say your morning aloud in three sentences: “I wake up at … I brush my teeth. I go to school at …” ✓
