What is vocabulary?

Vocabulary is the set of words you know and can use — what they mean, how they are spelt, and which word fits which sentence. A strong vocabulary helps children read faster, understand lessons better, write richer answers and speak with confidence. This free course grows vocabulary step by step: Part 1 (ages 6–9) teaches everyday words with meanings — home, school, food, the body, family, animals, weather, feelings, colours and shapes, and simple opposites; Part 2 (ages 9–12) builds word power with synonyms, antonyms, homophones, prefixes, suffixes, compound words, collective nouns, gender and young ones of animals, and words in context; Part 3 (ages 12–16) covers one word substitution, idioms and phrases, phrasal verbs, commonly confused words, formal and informal words, word families, spelling, analogies and context clues. Every lesson explains one method in plain words, works an example, and gives unlimited practice with “Show me how”, a 20-question test, a badge and printable worksheets with answers.

What age or class is this vocabulary course for?

Ages 6–16, roughly Class 1 to Class 10. Part 1 (everyday words) suits ages 6–9, Part 2 (synonyms, antonyms, homophones, prefixes and more) ages 9–12, and Part 3 (one word substitution, idioms, phrasal verbs and more) ages 12–16. Older children can start with any lesson.

How can I improve my child’s vocabulary?

Read together every day, talk about new words, and use them in sentences. Practise a little at a time — one lesson, ten questions — and revise often. Learning words in groups (synonyms, opposites, word families) helps them stick.

What is the difference between synonyms and antonyms?

Synonyms are words with the same meaning (begin – start); antonyms are words with opposite meanings (generous – selfish). Lessons 11 and 12 practise both, and lesson 10 starts with simple opposites for younger children.

Are there printable vocabulary worksheets with answers?

Yes. Every lesson has free printable worksheets — daily use words, synonyms and antonyms, homophones, prefixes and suffixes, collective nouns, one word substitution, idioms and phrases and more — with an answer key. Print them, save them as PDF or solve them online.

How do I get a certificate?

Sign in and pass the 20-question test of a lesson (16 or more right) to earn its badge. Pass every lesson in a part — Part 1 is lessons 1–10, Part 2 is 11–20, Part 3 is 21–30 — and you get that part’s certificate, with a code anyone can check.
