Community service projects — Leadership skills for students

Community service is helping people or places for free: a park clean-up drive, a book donation box, planting saplings, reading to younger kids or visiting an old-age home. A birthday party or a class picnic is fun, but not service. Start by finding a real need, set a goal with a number, plan for safety (gloves for a clean-up) and share the story to inspire others.

Leader's tip

Need first, then plan — “ask what people really need, then serve”

  1. Service: a park clean-up drive, a book donation box, planting saplings, collecting old clothes, a water-saving campaign.
  2. Just for fun, not service: a birthday party, a class picnic, a movie outing, a shopping trip.
  3. Plan it like any project: a real need → a goal with a number (each of 6 members collects 5 books = 30 books) → jobs → safety → share the story.

Use it for: Eco-club drives, school service days, festivals of giving and holiday projects.

Worked example: 🌍 Community service or just for fun: a park clean-up drive? → community service

  1. A clean-up helps everyone who uses the park, and nobody is paid.
  2. So it is a community service project.

Check: Try it: plan one small service project with friends — the need, the goal, the jobs and the date ✓
