Venn diagrams — Logical reasoning for kids

How to think it through

Middle first — “put the “both” number in the overlap, then fill each circle and the outside”

1. Put “both” in the overlap.
2. Only A = A − both; only B = B − both; at least one = A + B − both.
3. Neither = total − at least one; exactly one = only A + only B.

Use it for: Venn diagram questions in reasoning tests and maths (sets in Class 8–11), and survey results.

Worked example: In a group of 40 children, 22 play cricket, 18 play football and 7 play both. How many play neither of the two? → 7
