Comparing total prices — Money maths for kids

A lower price is not always cheaper. One shop may add a delivery charge; another may give a coupon; a pack of 3 may cost less than 3 single ones. Work out the final amount you pay in each case, then compare.

The method

Final price — “add every extra charge and take off every coupon before you compare”

  1. Final price = price + extra charges (like delivery) − coupons.
  2. Compare the final prices; the smaller one is cheaper.
  3. Saving = bigger final price − smaller final price.

Use it for: Online and offline shopping with family, packs vs singles, and comparison questions in Class 6–8.

Worked example: Shop A sells a football for ₹420 with free delivery. Shop B sells it for ₹380 plus ₹60 delivery. Which shop is cheaper in total? Shop A

  1. Shop A: 420. Shop B: 380 + 60 = 440.
  2. 420 is less than 440.

Check: Shop A saves 440 − 420 = ₹20 ✓
