The method

Read, plan, check — “name the money question, use its method, and check the answer makes sense”

  1. Name the type of question: count, change, bill, better buy, discount, budget, saving, interest, profit, passbook or safety.
  2. Use the method from that lesson and work step by step.
  3. Check: change is less than the money paid, a discount makes the price smaller, needs come before wants.

Use it for: Final revision of money maths and financial literacy for Class 5–8.

Worked example: After 20% off, a jacket costs ₹640. What was the price before the sale (in ₹)? → 800

  1. After 20% off you pay 80% of the old price.
  2. Old price = 640 × 100 ÷ 80 = 800.

Check: 20% of 800 = 160, and 800 − 160 = 640 ✓
