Debates run to time, so you need a little arithmetic. 6 speakers × 3 minutes = 18 minutes, plus 2 breaks of 2 minutes = 4 minutes, makes 22 minutes in all. To share a slot, take away the judges’ time and divide by the speakers. In a 5-minute speech with the first and last minute protected, points of information can be offered for 5 − 2 = 3 minutes.
