The grammar rule

Rule, then check — “name the rule the question tests, use it, and read the sentence aloud”

  1. Decide which rule the question is testing.
  2. Use that lesson’s rule — time word, subject, first sound, or pattern.
  3. Read the finished sentence aloud to check it.

Use it for: Final revision before school exams, English Olympiads and scholarship tests.

Worked example: Choose the right verb: Each of the girls ___ a locker. → has

  1. “Each of the girls” means each single girl, one at a time.
  2. One girl takes a singular verb: has.

Check: “Each girl has a locker” ✓
