Change from ₹10, ₹20 and ₹50 — Money maths for kids

When you pay more than the price, the shopkeeper gives back change. Change = money paid − cost. Shopkeepers often count up: from the price to the next ten, then to the money paid.

The method

Count up — “start at the price and count up to the money paid”

  1. Find the cost (add the prices, or multiply for many of one thing).
  2. Change = money paid − cost.
  3. Count up to check: price + change = money paid.

Use it for: Buying things at a shop, checking your change, and Class 2 money word problems.

Worked example: A kite costs ₹13. Tara pays ₹20. How much change does Tara get (in ₹)? → 7

  1. Count up from 13: +7 makes 20.
  2. 20 − 13 = 7.

Check: 13 + 7 = 20 ✓
