The method

Which money sum? — “count, compare, add, subtract or give change — decide first, then work”

  1. Read the question and decide: count, compare, add, subtract or change?
  2. Use the method from that lesson.
  3. Check: put your answer back into the question.

Use it for: Revision before a Class 1 or Class 2 maths test on money.

Worked example: How many coins of ₹5 make ₹40? → 8

  1. Count in fives: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40.
  2. That is 8 coins (40 ÷ 5 = 8).

Check: 8 × ₹5 = ₹40 ✓
