Writer's tip

Look for the clues — “magic → fairy tale, danger → adventure, clues → mystery, silliness → funny”

  1. Magic, spells, wishes, fairies, giants or dragons → fairy tale.
  2. A dangerous journey, exploring or escaping → adventure story.
  3. Something missing, clues, a secret or a detective → mystery story. Silly mix-ups that make you laugh → funny story.

Use it for: Choosing library books, book reviews, and planning the kind of story you want to write.

Worked example: What kind of story is this? → mystery story

  1. The story: The school trophy goes missing, and Riya follows the clues to find who took it.
  2. Something is missing and there are clues to follow — that is a mystery.

Check: No magic, no dangerous journey, nothing silly — just clues ✓
