Writer's tip

Make the reader see it — “senses, actions, comparisons and exact words bring writing to life”

  1. Decide which tool the question is about.
  2. Use that lesson’s tip: a sense, showing actions, like / as or IS, a sound word, a strong verb, an exact adjective, or speech marks.
  3. Read your choice aloud — does it paint a clear picture?

Use it for: Revising Part 2 before you write a descriptive story.

Worked example: Which strong verb means “ate very fast and greedily”? → gobbled

  1. Eating fast and greedily — like a hungry boy with a plate of samosas.
  2. That is gobbled. Tumbled means fell over and over, and glanced means took a quick look.

Check: “The hungry boy gobbled all the samosas” — you can see it ✓
